About Arch Street Candle
How I got started
I never envisioned myself starting a candle company, but in November 2021 my mom passed away at the age of 93. When we were cleaning out her house, we opened up a dining room hutch and found about 50 candles. Some were burned a few times but many were never burned. I am a very curious person, so I decided to burn these candles as we got the house ready for sale. While burning these candles I noticed that they were all burning differently. Some burned great while others didn’t. Little did I know that my candle journey started at that moment.
The man behind Arch Street Candle
My name is Paul and I am the owner of Arch Street Candle. I am a “one man” operation. I started learning about the art of candle making in early 2022. After about 6 months of testing different wax types, jars and fragrances I believe I’ve made some great burning and smelling candles. I hope you agree! My motto is “Let Us Smell Up Your Room”! Enough "about me" - buy a few candles and see first hand how we "smell up your rooms".
Made In Philly
I was born and raised in West Philadelphia and currently reside in Center City Philadelphia. When starting my business I knew I wanted to have a Philadelphia “theme”. I named my company, Arch Street Candle, for two reasons. First, it’s the street I currently live on and second, Arch Street has been around since the 1700’s. It was initially named Mulberry Street and was renamed Arch Street in 1854. It’s a major east-west street in Center City that runs from the Delaware River to the Schuykill River.
The stone arch bridge on my label runs over the Schuykill River and connects Center City with West Philadelphia. It carries trains over the river to Amtraks 30th Street Station. The bridge is over 150 years old. It’s also the view outside my window. So I wanted to incorporate the bridge into my label.
I have a few Philly themed candle names. Philly! Philly! is named for the famous Super Bowl LII Eagles trick play right before halftime that resulted in a touchdown. The other candle is called “The Shore”. Everyone else calls the shore the beach, but for us Philadelphians we “go down the shore”.
